A Rise to the Top - Basingstoke Loddon Rotary in the B&D Community Lottery
31 March 2023
Basingstoke Loddon Rotary has participated in the Basingstoke & Deane Community Lottery since it started in November 2020, so far raising a fantastic £4012 for local charities and good causes.
What's the secret to this successful fundraising?
BVA had the chance to catch up with Basingstoke Loddon Rotary's President Chris Flemming, who said that the community lottery has allowed him to "Connect ticket holders with Charity outcomes."
Chris went on to say:
During this time as a good cause in the community lottery, there appear to be three main reasons for our success:
Firstly, we started advertising well on social media and email, and quickly reached our initial target of selling 50 tickets a week with most people paying monthly direct debit. Our target has increased and now selling 72 tickets a week!
Secondly, we raise and donate funds for a number of local charities and good causes that our members choose. Ticket holders definitely like to be involved in where funds raised are donated.
Thirdly, a representative from organisation donated to comes and talks to our members about what the donation has been spent on. This gives a good connection between people buying tickets and hearing first-hand how their money has helped others.
We donate £250 or more regularly and have given to the following:
The Community Foodlink (Basingstoke) - £250
Basingstoke and Area Tinnitus Support Group - £250
Citizens Advice Tadley - £250
Home Start - £500
The Safe - £550
Link2 - £250
Breakout Youth - £250
Basingstoke & District Young Carers - £550
Community Defibrillator at The Orchard - £250
Cafe Dome Project at Brighton Hill - £250
The Camrose Centre - £500
Basingstoke Foodbank - £200
How amazing! Basingstoke Loddon Rotary's experince in the lottery really shows how crucial fundriaisng can be for the community. they are currently the top cuase in the community lottery, selling a mind blowing 72 tickets every week!
